The Gate of Values

Tribal values, laws, and responsibility

I Ching: The CauldronSpleen

About Gate 50

Gate 50 is the gate of values - the splenic awareness of tribal laws, rules, and values that preserve the community. It carries a deep sense of responsibility for maintaining the structures that keep the tribe safe and functioning. This gate is about knowing what values are worth preserving and having the instinct to uphold them. It connects to Gate 27 to form the Channel of Preservation.

Center

Spleen CenterIntuition, Survival, Health & Time

Every gate belongs to one center. When the gate is active, it gives its own colour to how that center works in the chart.

Channel it forms

A gate on its own is a leaning that looks for its other half. When the partner gate is also active - in the same chart or in someone close - the channel closes and the energy becomes consistently available.

The Six Lines

Every gate divides into six lines, and the number after the dot (e.g. 50.3) shows which line is active. The line doesn't change the gate's theme - it changes how it is lived:

50.1

Investigator - Needs a solid foundation: investigates until it feels secure.

50.2

Hermit - A natural gift that shows itself when left alone, and waits to be called out.

50.3

Martyr - Learns through trial and error; what fails is part of the discovery.

50.4

Opportunist - Everything moves through close relationships: friendship, network and stability.

50.5

Heretic - Others project expectations of a solution here; the test is delivering something practical.

50.6

Role Model - A view from above: experience that ripens over the years into wisdom others look to.
