The Gate of Correction

Correcting patterns to improve and perfect

I Ching: Work on What Has Been SpoiltSpleen

About Gate 18

Gate 18 carries the intuitive drive to correct and improve patterns. It sees what is flawed or imperfect and feels compelled to fix it. This critical eye is a gift when applied appropriately - it can improve systems, heal what is broken, and challenge authority that is not serving the greater good. The challenge is discerning when correction is wanted and welcome. It connects to Gate 58 to form the Channel of Judgment.

Center

Spleen CenterIntuition, Survival, Health & Time

Every gate belongs to one center. When the gate is active, it gives its own colour to how that center works in the chart.

Channel it forms

A gate on its own is a leaning that looks for its other half. When the partner gate is also active - in the same chart or in someone close - the channel closes and the energy becomes consistently available.

The Six Lines

Every gate divides into six lines, and the number after the dot (e.g. 18.3) shows which line is active. The line doesn't change the gate's theme - it changes how it is lived:

18.1

Investigator - Needs a solid foundation: investigates until it feels secure.

18.2

Hermit - A natural gift that shows itself when left alone, and waits to be called out.

18.3

Martyr - Learns through trial and error; what fails is part of the discovery.

18.4

Opportunist - Everything moves through close relationships: friendship, network and stability.

18.5

Heretic - Others project expectations of a solution here; the test is delivering something practical.

18.6

Role Model - A view from above: experience that ripens over the years into wisdom others look to.
