Ne

Extroverted Intuition

Extroverted Intuition (Ne) is an explosion of ideas. It sees the world not as it is, but as what it *could* be. Ne users differ from Ni users in that they expand outwards - one idea triggers three more, which trigger nine more. They are naturally curious, open-minded, and excellent at brainstorming.

At Best (Healthy)

Inspiring, innovative, and able to see potential in everyone and everything. They bring fresh perspectives and energy.

Under Stress (Unhealthy)

Can be scattered, unreliable, and unable to finish what they start. They may jump from project to project without focus.

Ne and Si share the same axis. Ne leaps from what is to what could be: it links unrelated things, sees ten ways instead of one and is drawn to the new. Si compares the present with what has already been lived, trusts what has proven itself and notices small departures from the familiar. Ne without Si scatters and never finishes; Si without Ne gets stuck in habits even after they stop working.

How to develop Ne

1

Before choosing a solution, list at least ten different options - silly ones included - and only then start filtering.

2

Change one thing in your routine every week: a new route to work, a different genre to read, a restaurant you have never tried.

3

Run a fifteen-minute brainstorm with someone using "yes, and" - no criticism at all until time is up.

4

Read something outside your field and try to connect one idea from it to a problem you are working on right now.

Dominant Function

The primary lens through which they see the world.

ENTPs and ENFPs lead with exploration. They are the ultimate "idea people," constantly scanning the horizon for new opportunities and bored by routine.

Auxiliary Function

Supports the dominant function and provides balance.

INTPs and INFPs use Ne to feed their internal judgment. It provides them with options and alternative perspectives to analyze or evaluate against their values.

Tertiary Function

Playful, but can turn childish or defensive under stress.

ESFJs and ESTJs use Ne to be playful, plan events, or entertain new possibilities. It helps them loosen up their rigid structures.

Inferior Function

The source of many struggles, and of great growth.

ISFJs and ISTJs often fear the unknown. Ne manifests as anxiety about "what could go wrong" (catastrophizing). Growth comes from embracing change safely.
